Get excited Whyalla, the foreshore café is opening this weekend!

Smokey Uppercuts and Whyalla City Council have worked together tirelessly to ensure the facility is operational this year, and it all kicks off with live entertainment to celebrate the opening and the first weekend of summer.

The café will be open 7am-7pm seven days a week, offering classic café options; your favourite feeds from Smokey Uppercuts; and of course, specialty Eyre Roasted coffee.

Smokey Uppercuts Owner Dylan Laherstorfer said there was a mix of excitement, anticipation and relief to finally be opening.

“We can’t wait to share our new-look menu and coffee offerings with the community – both our existing and new customers,” Mr Laherstorfer said.

“We want to cater for a variety of tastes, so we’d encourage everyone to give us a try.”

Mr Laherstorfer said the café would be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with live entertainment featuring this Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. Given the anticipated high level of interest, he asked for the community’s understanding during the initial stages.

“Our customers can attest to our level of service with our usual food offering, however we’ve never operated a café before, so we ask everyone to be patient and bear with us while we find our feet!” he said.

Smokey Uppercuts will set up their usual transportable cooking services adjacent the café, with meals and drinks to be served inside the café building. This will ensure the existing building can be utilised while continuing to meet all the relevant food, health, safety and building code requirements.

Council will continue to provide updates to the community as work progresses on the long-term café service from the location.
