The City of Whyalla would like to remind residents that dog and cat registrations are now due.

All dog and cat owners must register their animals with Council annually between July 1 and August 31.  A late fee may apply if registered after August 31, 2019.

If you own a dog or cat that is currently registered with council, you should have received a renewal notification via post, email or sms.  The process to renew your dog and cat registration in DACO (Dogs And Cats Online) is quick and simple.

Just go to DACO www.dogsandcatsonline.com.au click Login if you are a registered user, or click Register if you have received a renewal notification or would like to register a new dog or cat.

Payment for registrations can be made in DACO using a credit card or using B-Pay.

You are required to update DACO if your dog or cat;

* Is removed from where it is usually kept with the intention that it will be kept at some other place,

* The dog or cat dies,

* The dog or cat has been missing for more than 72 hours,

* The ownership of the dog or cat is transferred to another person.

Should the ownership of the animal be transferred to another person, the new owner must be provided with the permanent registration number and the DACO transfer code.

From July 1, 2018, all dogs and cats, regardless of age, must be microchipped.  Having your dog or cat microchipped does not mean it is registered with council.

Expiation notices can be issued to owners found to be keeping an unregistered dog. The expiation fee (under the Dog and Cat Management Act) is $170.  The expiation fee (under Whyalla council’s By-laws) for keeping an unregistered cat is $187.50.

To help people struggling to meet the costs of everyday living, the City of Whyalla is working with the National Desexing Network (NDN) and Dr Mustafa Bozkurt Veterinary Clinic to provide a subsidised desexing program that will help prevent thousands of unwanted kittens.

Council has allocated $20,000 towards this program to help alleviate the problem of undesexed cats breeding and contributing to the stray cat population in Whyalla. The program will be re-assessed when the funding runs out with dogs to be considered in any further funding and program extension.

Eligible Whyalla Council residents will pay just $55 to desex their male cats and $90 for female cats. To help those with many cats, additional female cats will only be $55 per cat. These are heavily discounted fees made possible by the Council subsidy.
