After a call out to the community seeking expressions of interest, Council is pleased to advise that all positions on the inaugural Whyalla Sports Advisory Group have been filled.
With representatives from Council, local sporting groups and independent community members, the Advisory Group will assist in determining the future management direction of Bennett Oval, Memorial Oval and Jubilee Park ovals.
Acting CEO, Kristen Clark, said that the role of the Advisory Group will be to assist with day to day management of the facilities; provide recommendations to Council on other potential uses for the three precincts; and to assist with any future major events at these facilities.
The Group will work towards developing Whyalla’s ovals and facilities to ensure maximum community benefit.
Council sought community members with an understanding of the needs of sport in Whyalla who were able to demonstrate the appropriate skillset in facilities management, finance, marketing, events and governance.
“We were pleased to receive many high-calibre expressions of interest from community members to join the inaugural Sports Advisory Group. The quantity and quality of the applications exceeded our expectations and made the selection process difficult. I thank all who took the time to apply and congratulate those who were successful in gaining a position” said Mr Clark.
The newly appointed members have a wide range of experience across many sporting codes encompassing football, basketball, golf, cycling, squash, Harriers, netball, basketball, hockey and cricket.
“I look forward to seeing this Group work collaboratively with Council to steer the ongoing development of Whyalla sports ovals and facilities” said Mr Clark.
Joining Council staff on the Whyalla Sports Advisory Group are:
David Miller | Anthony Travers | Andie Maxwell |
Noel Goldsworthy | Tony Appleyard | Jeff Spry |
David Freeman | David Sharp | John O’Halloran |
Due to covid-19, meetings of the newly formed group will initially be held online.
