Time to Get Filming for the Digital Whyalla Christmas Pageant!

Published 13th October 2020
All the details you need to participate in this years pageant.

Following on from the recent announcement of the Whyalla Christmas Pageant going digital this year, it’s now time to start filming so you can be part of this unique event.

Although the usual street parade isn’t feasible under current COVID-19 restrictions, Damien Trenwith – from pageant organisers Whyalla Apex Club – said the online event ensured Apex could still bring some Christmas cheer to the community.

“Rather than cancel it altogether, we’re encouraging previous float entrants to film themselves on their float and submit it for compilation,” Mr Trenwith said.

“We’re also keen for anyone in the community who wants to send a Christmas message to get involved, so we can have as many residents in the video as possible.”

Community groups, educational bodies, sporting groups, businesses and organisations are encouraged to start thinking about how they can get involved, particularly those who have been part of the pageant parade in recent years.

If you have a float, you can film it with everyone smiling and waving just like they would during the regular pageant. Float videos should be kept under 60 seconds.

If you don’t have a float but would still like to participate, you’re encouraged to get together with your family, friends, business, sporting club, classmates etc and record a Christmas message.

Just a simple “Merry Christmas from all of us at __________”, keeping your message clean, appropriate and with no promotions. These videos need to be kept under 30 seconds. No music please.

Once you have recorded your message, follow this link: https://spaces.hightail.com/uplink/WhyallaCityCouncil

When prompted on the screen, drag your file into the box (if you are on a computer), or click the red ‘My Computer’ button to browse your device for your video. Check out the graphic below for an example.

Submissions are open from Monday 19 October until 5pm Friday 6 November.

Whyalla City Council is assisting Apex by compiling the videos to be presented on its Facebook page on a date to be confirmed. The aim will be to fit in as many submissions as possible.

If you are having trouble with link or have any queries, please email council@whyalla.sa.gov.au and include ‘Whyalla Christmas Pageant’ in the subject line.
