Nomination process for supplementary elections
Once a vacancy has been declared, the Electoral Commission of South Australia (ECSA) will establish timeframes for the election in accordance with the Act and produce a supplementary elections timetable.
A public notice advising of the upcoming election will be placed in the local newspaper at least one week before nominations open.
At this time, you can obtain a nomination kit from your council. The kit includes an application form, information booklets about the nomination process and the role and responsibilities of a councillor and a copy of the supplementary election timetable.
Nominations remain open for approximately two weeks. During this time, candidates must complete and lodge a nomination form with their council.
Following the close of nominations ECSA will prepare voting materials and candidate profiles will be uploaded to this website.
