Queen of the Desert is a four day event exploring the Oodnadatta Track at a leisurely pace with lots interesting stops, photo opportunities and plenty of family fun. The adventure starts in Whyalla on Thursday, April 13, 2017 with an official welcoming dinner and entertainment by Whyalla's very own 'Just Me' at Whyalla Sportfishing Club.

Then, Queen of the Desert hits the road on Friday morning, April14, 2017. The fun continues with overnight stops at Coober Pedy, Painted Desert, Arckaringa Station, William Creek Hotel and finishes in Marree with dinner and entertainment for the whole family!

The ticket price is inclusive of:

  • All camping site accommodation at Coober Pedy's Big4-Stuart Range, Arckaringa Station, William Creek Hotel and Marree Hotel;
  • Guided tour of Coober Pedy's famous Breakaways, Underground Church, Mine and Museum and Underground homes.
  • Participation in the Coober Pedy Opal Festival parade.
  • Dinner at William Creek and Marree both including entertainment during the night.
  • Spread of local produce during the Painted Desert sunset tour.
  • 4 billy tea breaks during the event.

Queen of the Desert is a celebration of Australian film, and participants are invited to dress their vehicles, and themselves, in the theme of an Australian film of their choice (although this is not mandatory). Think Mad Max, Red Dog, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Muriel's Wedding, Crocodile Dundee - the options are endless!
Participants are encouraged to get into the spirit of the theme by designing decorations for their vehicles, or dressing as characters from their chosen film.

There is plenty to see in the great South Australian outback; check out the Algebuckina Bridge, the Pink Roadhouse in Oodnadatta, Cowards Springs, and the incredible landscape of South Australia's desert.

There will also be opportunities to takea scenic flight over Lake Eyre with tours from Wrightsair
