Test results have returned for the Mayor

Tuesday, March 24, 2020

Mayor Clare McLaughlin has been tested for COVID-19 and has returned a negative result.

Senator Rex Patrick visited Whyalla on Saturday 14 March and met with Mayor McLaughlin and Acting CEO Kristen Clark to discuss airport screening, security and funding issues.

Subsequent to this meeting, Senator Patrick discovered that he had been in contact with a person who has tested positive to the coronavirus.

Whilst Mayor McLaughlin was completely asymptomatic, upon receiving advice as to Senator Patrick’s status she immediately entered self-isolation and contacted her doctor.

Mayor McLaughlin was tested on Friday at the Whyalla Hospital drive-through clinic and subsequently advised of her negative result yesterday (Monday 23 March).

Mayor McLaughlin urged the community to continue to practice social distancing and good hygiene practices.
