Celebrating another great pageant and fair

GREAT DAY: Mayor Clare McLaughlin and husband Greg Coulter at the After Pageant Fair on Saturday.

Mayor Clare McLaughlin has paid tribute to the Whyalla Apex Club, GFG Alliance and all the volunteers that made Saturday’s GFG Alliance Whyalla Christmas Pageant and After Pageant Fair such a success.

Mayor McLaughlin said there were huge crowds along the route of this year’s pageant and a fantastic turnout for the fair in Ada Ryan Gardens.

“The pageant and fair were amazing events with so many people enjoying the occasion … I don’t think I’ve seen that many people at the fair before,” Mayor McLaughlin said.

“We had perfect weather, a great pageant and wide range of free things to see and do at the fair.

“Council assists with these events but most of the credit must go to the Whyalla Apex Club and every volunteer that helped make Saturday such an uplifting community event.

“It simply can’t be said enough that clubs like Apex are the backbone of our community and we should all pay tribute to them, and even put our hand up to join them, as they volunteer their time for us, the community, with these events and others.

“And we must also thank GFG Alliance for again showing its community spirit by sponsoring both the pageant and fair.”

PACKED: The After Pageant Fair attracted a huge crowd on Saturday in Ada Ryan Gardens.

Mayor McLaughlin said another example of community groups getting together to present an event for the city will occur on Sunday December 15 with the Carols in the Park which is being jointly organised by the Lions Club of Whyalla and the Whyalla Mt. Laura Lions Club in conjunction with local company Stormfront Productions.

“This is another event proudly supported by Council and made possible by the Lions clubs and the many volunteers on the day,” Mayor McLaughlin said.

“We are blessed here in Whyalla to have these community groups organising such fantastic events and I encourage everyone to get down to Civic Park on December 15 for the Carols and, again, put your hand up to be a part of these organisations.”

Anyone wishing to join the Whyalla Apex Club can phone 0412 370 780. To join the Whyalla Lions Club call 8645 3997 and for the Lions Club of Mt Laura call 0419 864 587.
