Whyalla public invited to have a say

recycling

The Environment Resources and Development Committee of Parliament has advised Council it will be visiting Whyalla on Friday September 20, 2019 as part of the Inquiry into the Recycling Industry.

The following is a statement from the committee:

Recycling industry enquiry

All members of the public are welcome to attend a public hearing at the City of Whyalla Council Chamber commencing at 1pm on Friday, September 20, 2019.

Local Councils will be giving evidence in relation to the impact and challenges faced by the recycling industry and Councils in recent times.

Adrian Pederick, Presiding Member, says that it is important for the committee to get a regional perspective on these issues and looks forward to hearing from the Councils and members of the public.

The Committee will also be visiting Whyalla Steelworks and the new Peats soil site as part of their visit.

China’s decision to reduce the importation of contaminated waste presents an opportunity for South Australia, and in particular, regional South Australia to develop and consolidate the local recycling industry.

The Committee welcomes interested members of the public and organisations to present their views.

Please contact Joanne Fleer, the Parliamentary Officer ERDC.Assembly@parliament.sa.gov.au or 08 8237 9387 if you would like to have your say.

Further information about the inquiry and the submissions received are found on the committee website www.parliament.sa.gov.au/erdc
