Silent auction at Whyalla Harvey Norman

GOOD CAUSE: Some of the items available in the Whyalla Harvey Norman silent auction.

The South Australian Country Women’s Association (SACWA) and its Whyalla Norrie branch are set to benefit from Wednesday’s Our Town live broadcast from Whyalla.

As part of its sponsorship of Sky News presenter Paul Murray’s Our Town series, Harvey Norman in Whyalla is running a silent auction with proceeds going to the SACWA. Members of the Whyalla Norrie SACWA will be at the electrical store until 4pm on Wednesday, June 12, to help with the auction while Paul Murray will also be making an appearance.

President of the Whyalla Norrie SACWA, June Phillips-Smith said her branch was proud to be helping the SACWA fundraising effort. Residents are invited to drop in to bid on the available products or make a donation.

“This Harvey Norman sponsorship, in conjunction with Our Town, was started to help drought-stricken regions in Queensland,” June said.

“We don’t quite have drought conditions here in South Australia but the SACWA still does a lot of work helping people out in our community.

“The SACWA helps those less fortunate with initiatives like the baby parcel program, accommodation in Adelaide for regional people, warm clothing and financial assistance.

“We will be there too if South Australia slips into full drought conditions to help our local farmers on the Eyre Peninsula.”

MAKE YOUR BID: The Whyalla Norrie SACWA and Paul Murray will be at the Whyalla Harvey Norman on Wednesday, June 12.

June said the Whyalla Norrie branch was active in providing dementia blankets for local nursing homes, baby beanies for Whyalla newborns and a host of other local community endeavours and activities.

“We will have five members at Harvey Norman in the morning and another five in the afternoon,” June said.

“This is a good chance for us to help raise money for the SACWA but to also raise awareness of our branch in the community and hopefully attract a few new members.”

The Whyalla Norrie SACWA is for anyone from 13-years and up. The branch meets every Tuesday from 10am to midday at the Guide Hall on Rozee Street in Whyalla Norrie. Enquiries can be made to June on 8645 0679 or 0438 450 679.
