The Whyalla Music Association, is presenting an explosion of young musical talent this weekend.

The association’s Whyalla Youth Musician Mentor Program, run in conjunction with the City of Whyalla and its Youth Advisory Committee (YAC), culminates with a free concert on Saturday night at the Left Hand Club with a huge program of young local musicians. Whyalla’s local talent will be showcased to help celebrate National Youth Week 2019 and embrace the over-arching theme of “Participate and Celebrate”.

Council Youth Development Officer Gail Rostig said Whyalla’s emerging young musicians had been put through their paces by musically-minded mentors for eight weeks in the lead-up to this special concert as they met weekly to collaborate, jam and perfect their craft.

The program aims to encourage young people to work together on organising and hosting their own event for family, peers and general public.

Performing on the night will be Blake Brougham, Daniel Weidenbach, Maria Alboino, Brie Ryan, Emily Rawlings, Eleanor Hwata, Chloe Seeley, Ellise Hill, Eloise Fisher, Jade Bourchier, Natalie Rayner, Harold Flam, Rebecca Aspey, Brittany Griffin, Baily Griffin and Jasmine Moder

“This is an amazing program put together by the Whyalla Music Association which has been going for many years now,” Gail said.

“Many Monday nights have been spent down at the Whyalla Music Association Hall making noise, singing, listening to guest presenters and learning a little of the techniques and tech speak, including correct microphone technique and stage craft.

“The mentors have been amazing with this program, volunteering their time to support youth musos to deliver what will be an amazing concert.

“All of the hard work will be put to the test with a performance in front of a live audience, which will showcase not only musical qualities but showmanship, resilience and event management but also provides a platform for many of these artists to go to bigger and better things including paid gigs.

“Join us, and our MC for the night Ben Spiegel, at the Left Hand Club, from 7pm.”

The concert is an alcohol and drug-free event proudly sponsored by the Whyalla Left Hand Club, Whyalla Music Association, Whyalla Council and the Office for Youth.
