Some wetlands tracks to be closed this week

NEW AND OLD: The design for the new floating pontoon, the site and the old structure.

The Jim Pollock Whyalla Wetlands will be getting a new model boat launching wharf this week.

The existing launching jetty has reached the end of its working life with a modern, floating pontoon being put in place by the City of Whyalla.

The $50,000 project starts on Monday (February 11, 2019) and there will be some barricades and temporary walking track closures put in place at the wetlands. These closures will occur on the Pond 4 Walking Track where the model boat launching wharf is to be placed.

SIMILAR: The new pontoon at the wetlands will look something like this one.

On Monday afternoon, the partial removal of the existing model boat launching wharf will be completed in preparation for the new floating wharf to be installed.

A section of the walking track will be closed on Tuesday morning as a crane lifts the new sections of the floating wharf into position.

Work crews aim to have have the new floating wharf ready for use by Wednesday morning.

Council thanks the public in advance for their patience while this work is carried out.
