Here's even more stuff to do over the holidays in Whyalla

We've unearthed a few more school holiday activities in Whyalla.

There's some really cool sensory friendly film screenings happening at the Middleback Arts Centre. It's lights up, sound down and free to move around as Hotel Transylvania 3 screens today (Thursday, July 12) at 3.45pm while Ant-Man and The Wasp shows on Friday, July 20 at 3.15pm.

These screenings are perfect for autism spectrum, families with special needs children or young children and those that just like to shout, dance and sing.

The Whyalla Basketball Association has scored former Adelaide 36er Kevin Brooks and Premier League coach Ricky Simpson to run a basketball clinic on Friday, July 20.

Meanwhile, out at the Mt Laura Homestead Museum it is free entry for all children when accompanied by an adult during the school holidays.

There’s another big program of events at the Whyalla Library, while D’Faces has a series of workshops, NAIDOC Week still has a range of events for the family, the Whyalla Youth Advisory Committee is putting on some cool stuff and there’s plenty to do at the Whyalla Maritime Museum and Whyalla Library.

The Whyalla Youth Activities Committee (YAC) will be hard at work during the holidays. YAC is teaming up with the crew at the Whyalla Recreation Centre to sponsor free entry to all of the centre’s amenities on Friday July 20 between 11am and 4pm.

This includes the pool and the waterslide and they will also have big games set up in the centre where kids can play giant bowls, snakes and ladders, hopscotch, Connect Four and Jenga.  There will also be smaller version of games available.

YAC will also have a free viewing of The Incredibles 2 at the Middleback Arts Centre on July 18 with “Be Your Own Superhero” activities in the MAC foyer from 10am and the movie commencing at 11am.  No need to book, just turn up.

The Whyalla Maritime Museum, at the Whyalla Visitor and Information Centre, has its Cuttlefish Capers on every day of the school holidays including weekends. With free entry to the visitor centre and museum, Cuttlefish Capers is a fun fact-hunting game where participants will come away with a goodies bag.

As usual, the Whyalla Public Library has plenty of activities with the slime workshop already booked out. So be quick, get in now to book your places for the remaining events.

If you’ve got a community event for kids over the school holidays, let us know. You can send your details to council at council@whyalla.sa.gov.au
