STEPPING OUT: Staff from Whyalla Beyond Bank - Charmain Hyslop, Savannah Beattie, April Hughes and Leanne Jackson - get in to the spirit of the Beyond Bank Australia Day Fun Run which encourages people to run or walk 5km on Australia Day morning.

Each Year Whyalla Council hosts its Australia Day twilight celebrations at the foreshore to provide a day of family entertainment and acknowledge individuals and groups who have made outstanding contributions to the local community.

Much of this wouldn’t be possible without the long-standing support of the Beyond Bank and its Whyalla branches. Beyond Bank is again the major sponsor of the Whyalla Australia Day awards, festivities and fun run.

bank”Whyalla Council is pleased to confirm Beyond Bank Australia will once again be the major sponsor of the Whyalla Australia Day Festivities, the Australia Day Awards and the Australia Day Fun Run for 2018,” the City of Whyalla’s Australia Day co-ordinator Rebecca Neilson said.

The Australia Day Awards commence with an official Awards evening on Thursday January 25 at the Mount Laura Homestead. The festivities continue on Friday January 26 starting with the fun run from Ada Ryan Gardens at 9am and then from 4pm on the foreshore with a range of activities for all including a sand castle contest, live music, a watermelon eating competition, dummy spitting competition, acknowledgement of the Australia Day Award winners and then fireworks display at 9pm.

The Australia Day awards - including citizen, senior citizen, young citizen, sports contribution, community event and community service awards - provide recognition for some of the outstanding achievements of residents in the Whyalla region and are part of Council's commitment to strengthening community participation within the city.

“We are delighted to partner with the City of Whyalla Council again in 2018 to bring the Australia Day Festival to the community,” Beyond Bank Community Development Manager John Morrison said.

“Australia Day celebrations not only remind us about how fortunate we are to live here, but also brings families together through celebration and national pride.

”The values embraced by the City of Whyalla Council, in particular the focus on community and highlighting the citizens and their amazing achievements, resonates strongly with Beyond Bank.

“As a customer-owned bank our aim is to build a stronger and more prosperous community and be the chosen bank for community groups, their supporters and their volunteers.

“We offer a range of banking products specifically for the community sector and we are always looking to partner with like-minded organisations that put community first.”
