Council’s draft budget out for public consultation

The Whyalla City Council’s 2015/16 draft budget is out for public consultation and CEO Peter Peppin is encouraging Whyalla ratepayers and residents to embrace the opportunity to contribute to the City’s current and future plans.

The draft budget is available on Council’s website and two public information sessions have been planned by Council. The first event takes places (today) June 11 at the Westland Shopping Centre between 2pm and 6pm. Residents are invited to drop in at their leisure during this time frame to speak to Council staff. The second event will be on 17 June at the Vicki Ledo Room at the Whyalla Public Library.

Mr Peppin said that Council remains firmly on its path to make Whyalla an even better place to live, work, invest and visit.

"There are many exciting and beneficial projects earmarked for the next financial year," said Mr Peppin. "I encourage residents to give us any feedback they may have on how we intend to fund the ongoing improvement initiatives in our city."

Some of Council’s priority projects for the next financial year include:

  • Capital Works Program of $8.1M including $5.3M for replacement/renewal of existing assets and $2.8M for new and upgraded assets.
  • Commencement of the third stage of landscape upgrade works in accordance with the recommendations in the Oxigen Landscape Architects Report.
  • Continuation of the upgrading of the Whyalla Cemetery/Crematorium in accordance with the recommendations in the report by consultants, Changing Places.
  • Ongoing commitment to continue the Obesity Prevention and Lifestyle (OPAL) projects for the next two years.

Submissions can be made to Council by email and all feedback will be duly considered. The public consultation period concludes on Tuesday 30 June and Council will vote to adopt the 2015/16 budget at a Special Council Meeting to be held on Monday 6 July, 2015.
