Work set to start on safer intersection
at Jenkins, Cartledge Avenues

A major upgrade of the Jenkins and Cartledge Avenues intersection to cater for recent development stages of the Ocean Eyre Estate will commence next week.

Work will include the duplication of Jenkins Avenue up to Cartledge Avenue and installation of a roundabout to help all traffic safely negotiate the intersection and entrance into the new sub-divisions.

Project Manager Josh Sampson said intersection improvements were being funded by developer contributions, while duplication of Jenkins Avenue would be funded by Whyalla City Council.

“The project is important to ensure safe traffic movements to both the housing estate and general traffic users of the area.

“The installation of a roundabout at such a significant location to become a four-way intersection was previously identified as a suitable traffic management treatment.”

Construction is expected to be completed by early November. The project is being managed by Council staff.

Temporary traffic controls will be in place during construction and it is suggested that the community may wish to use alternative routes where possible to avoid any delays in their journey.

Residents living in the vicinity of the works will be informed by a letterbox drop about the temporary arrangements during the construction period.

Initial details of the proposed improvements were publically released in June.

Mr Sampson said Council was pleased to be able to finally address the situation where a four-lane dual carriageway with a central media merged into a dual-lane single road.
