Three-year deal struck to bring
Adelaide soccer round to Whyalla

Whyalla Council will enter into a formal agreement with the Football Federation of SA to host a regional round for the next three years.

Council will contribute $5,000 each year with a further $10,000 expected to be raised through sponsorship to cover the costs to stage a match in Whyalla.

In July last year, Whyalla Croatia Soccer Club was the venue to a regional round between high profile sides, Adelaide Raiders and Adelaide Blue Eagles, playing to a 0-0 draw.

Due to the success of the event, despite being weather affected, the FFSA approached Council to establish a partnership round involving the same teams because of their connections to Whyalla.

This year’s match is expected to be scheduled for Saturday, May 17.

Council’s STARCLUB Community and Recreation Field Officer, Alberto Salatino, said Council’s acceptance of the proposal fitted well in its strategic plan, which, under economic prosperity, supports major and unique events for key large target audiences.
