New website brings Whyalla tourism to life

A comprehensive and responsive website will provide a platform for further promotion of Whyalla as a tourism destination. has been developed by Whyalla City Council to provide a strong digital presence to promote Whyalla’s many tourism attractions and experiences.

The website has been designed to increase user engagement, with a user-friendly interface allowing visitors and potential visitors to dream, plan, book, share and connect with the Whyalla region.

Whyalla mayor Lyn Breuer said the website played a part in the council’s objective of repositioning and creating a positive impression of Whyalla as a tourism destination through changing perceptions of the city.

“We want to increase long-term visitation to Whyalla with lasting positive impressions of the city and the region as a destination for visitors,” Ms Breuer said.

“We have many wonderful things to see and do right on our doorstep that can transform Whyalla into a thriving regional tourism destination and we are working hard to promote these natural wonders, landscapes and experiences, encourage visitation to the city, and build our visitor economy.”

The website aims to be a potential visitor’s first point of call when considering a visit to Whyalla, providing information about staying in, tasting and experiencing what we have to offer.

The development of the website included a comprehensive engagement process, involving key stakeholders playing a part in the website’s development to foster a culture of ownership and pride in the promotion of Whyalla as a destination.

“Just as importantly, the website provides an opportunity for local businesses and the tourism industry to leverage off the Whyalla tourism website through any associated marketing and communications campaigns and commercial opportunities,” Ms Breuer said.

“We hope local businesses will take up the opportunity to be involved with the Whyalla tourism website by listing their business on the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse so they are discovered, and to use the site for bookings for their tourism product.

“Local businesses have the exciting opportunity to play a part in diversifying Whyalla’s economy and establishing it as a tourism destination and we sincerely hope the local community will join us in developing Whyalla as a destination of choice for visitors.”

The website will also allow the council to access and collate quantifiable data from online interaction and engagement to support marketing and decision making.
