Light the Night to set Whyalla Foreshore ablaze

Whyalla Foreshore will be set ablaze next weekend as Light the Night and the first Summer Market event hit Whyalla on Saturday, October 22.

The council has teamed up with the Leukaemia Foundation to bring Light the Night to Whyalla as part of its first event for its 2016/17 series of Summer Markets.

Light the Night is the Leukaemia Foundation’s annual fundraising walk to help more Australians beat blood cancer by improving survival rates and quality of life.

The event will provide an opportunity for residents to enjoy the beautiful Whyalla Foreshore while perusing the many exciting stalls on offer and enjoying music from Diversity Entertainment DJ Andrew Leske, before lighting a lantern in support of the Leukaemia Foundation’s fight against blood cancer.

Whyalla mayor Lyn Breuer said the second series of Summer Markets was set to be even better than the first.

“The Summer Markets are a great initiative of the council, and I am even more excited by the fact that the council is teaming up with the Leukaemia Foundation to bring Light the Night to Whyalla,” Ms Breuer said.

“Light the Night is a renowned fundraising event and receives great attendance in other areas throughout the state, so to be able to host it here in Whyalla is very exciting.”

A large variety of market stalls will be on offer on the evening, with Dezigner Dots, Vibrant Ray, Noble Friday, and Odds and Endz to name a few.

Also on offer will be potted plants and ornaments, children’s toys, children’s clothes, candles, jewellery, plus much more, as well as an exciting array of food and drink stalls.

“The Summer Markets provide a fantastic opportunity for local craftspeople and businesses to showcase their products, and I really hope the community gets behind them and heads down to have a look on October 22,” Ms Breuer said.

“This event is particularly special as it allows the community to get behind a wonderful cause by supporting the Leaukemia Foundation’s fight against blood cancer, and it will be quite a spectacle to see the lanterns alight during the lantern walk.

The council is encouraging members of the public interested in taking part in the Light the Night walk to lodge their registration before Friday, October 21, however registrations can be lodged on the night at the Leukaemia Foundation marquee located at Whyalla Foreshore.
