Local groups encouraged to take advantage of community grants

Local groups and organisations are being encouraged to take advantage of Whyalla City Council’s community grants program.

Submissions for the council’s Community Grants program are assessed quarterly, with closing dates in March, June, September and November of each year.

The final round of community grants for 2016 will close on Friday, November 4, and Whyalla mayor Lyn Breuer is encouraging community groups to make the most of the program before the 2017 year starts.

“The council’s community grants program provides a wonderful opportunity for local groups to receive a cash injection when needed,” Ms Breuer said.

“With 2016 coming to a close, this is the ideal time for local groups and organisations to apply for a community grant to fund any projects they may have in the pipelines for 2017.

“The council acknowledges the importance of local community groups, and the Community Grants program has played a major part in supporting Whyalla’s many community groups for many years.”

Application forms and guidelines are available on the council’s website at www.whyalla.sa.gov.au

Community grants of up to $5000 can be used to fund recreational or cultural activities, non-competitive sporting projects (skills development, training, professional demonstrations), equipment purchases, community celebrations, minor infrastructure, or program support.

For more information or advice about the application process, contact the council’s community department executive officer, Michelle Armstrong on 8640 3444.
