Christmas pageant incentive grants offered again

Whyalla City Council will again offer incentive grants to non-profit organisations to help build and enter a float in the 2016 Christmas pageant.

Acting Chief Executive Officer Migelle Hiscock said the funding concept for the Christmas Pageant Grants had been extremely popular since its introduction in 2008 and the council was supportive of it continuing.

“We believe the grants will again encourage community groups to prepare a float and join in the wonderful atmosphere and spirit on pageant day,” Mrs Hiscock said.

“Although the pageant is still about nine weeks away, people should start planning now, particularly if they intend applying for one of the grants.”

Organised by the Whyalla Apex Club, this year’s pageant will again be held as a twilight event on Saturday, November 26, finishing at the After Pageant Fair in Ada Ryan Gardens.

A total of $1000 will be shared by the successful groups to give them a “kick start”.

“The grants will be easy to apply for through a very simple form available at the council’s civic building or on its website – www.whyalla.sa.gov.au,” Mrs Hiscock said.

Applications close on Friday, October 21, with all applicants being advised of the outcome by the following Friday, allowing entrants five weeks to prepare their float.

Preference will be given to “first-timers” keen to get involved, but previous recipients looking at entering a new float are still welcome to apply.

Mrs Hiscock is urging businesses and the city’s many service providers who have not been involved previously, to consider entering a float with their employees, friends or customers.

“I appeal to everyone who can, to get behind the pageant for the enjoyment of the city’s youngsters and contribute with a float,” Mrs Hiscock said.

The council again hopes to supply several floats involving many of its employees, family members and friends, while ensuring that Father Christmas arrives safely and in style.

Further grants information is available from either STARCLUB community and recreation field officer Alberto Salatino on 0423 700 753, or Mrs Hiscock, on 0428 897 930 or visit www.whyalla.sa.gov.au
