Two-day event in Port Augusta

Are you between the age of 17 and 26 with a strong commitment to your local area … or do you know someone that fits this bill?

If so, there is a golden opportunity for those young people in our community to expand their skills and knowledge at the Regional Youth Leadership Forum in Port Augusta later this month.

Building on the successes of the Regional Youth Traineeship Program, the Local Government Association of South Australia (LGA), in partnership with Primary Industries and Regions SA, will be delivering the Eyre Peninsula forum on July 24-25.

Regional Youth Traineeship Program Coordinator, Natasha Black said the Port Augusta forum was a great chance for young people in Whyalla as it is one of just four being held in South Australian regional areas.

“This is a rare opportunity for youth in the region to participate in a free leadership forum with their peers,” Natasha said.

“We are calling on all young community-minded people in Whyalla to come along and grow their leadership skills while expanding their knowledge and contacts.”

The Leaders Institute of South Australia has been engaged to design and deliver the forum content on Wednesday and Thursday, July 24-25 with a night activity from 7pm to 9.30pm on Wednesday evening.

The forum will be facilitated by former newspaper columnist Mia Handshin (pictured top) with guest speakers including Whyalla’s own Cyanne Westerman who was a recent winner in the Channel 7 Young Achiever Awards.

As a fully funded program, there are no costs to participants. Registration, accommodation and travel will all be covered for young people to take part.

There are some eligibility criteria but Natasha said there is a degree of flexibility and she encourages any motivated, community-minded young people to call and enquire.
