Dog and Cat Registrations Now Due

All dogs and cats over 3 months of age residing in Whyalla are legally required to be registered with Council.

The registration period has commenced for this financial year and registrations are due by 31 August 2017. Residents whose dogs and cats were registered for the last financial year will soon start receiving renewal notices.

Changes to the Dog and Cat Management Act also mean that penalties for other offences have increased. These include $210 for a dog wandering at large and $210 for failing to pick up after your dog in a public place.

In line with the legislative changes Council is commencing review of its Animal Management Plan and will be undertaking comprehensive consultation over a 12 month period to devise a plan that accommodates the animal management needs of the community. To commence this process we invite residents to complete a survey by visiting . This survey will remain open throughout the registration period closing on 1 September 2017.

Council will be updating signage in relation to animal management in public places during this financial year and welcome any comments and suggestions in relation to content and design of the signage.

Registrations can be completed in person at Council’s Civic Building on Darling Terrace, Whyalla. In addition Council’s compliance staff will be holding three registration days at the Public Library on Ekblom Street, Whyalla Norrie on Thursday 27 July, Thursday 17 August and Thursday 31 August from 10am-3pm.
