New playgrounds for three public spaces

New playground equipment will be installed across three different locations throughout the city in the coming weeks.

Two new playgrounds will be installed at Parfitt Street Reserve and Geddes Street Reserve, with work due to begin on Monday, April 3.

A third playground is also scheduled for installation at Wilson Park on April 24 as part of a major upgrade of the facility as part of the state government’s funding program to improve public open spaces.

Members of the community were invited to have their say on the type of equipment they would like to see installed at the new playgrounds, and the council has taken the community’s suggestions onboard, ordering the most popular options presented throughout the public consultation period.

As well as installing new playground equipment aimed at younger children, the council is also installing various exercise equipment catering to an older demographic.

Existing playgrounds in these spaces will be demolished to allow for the new equipment to be installed.

A number of works will be undertaken at Wilson Park to enable to installation of playground and exercise equipment, including the removal of a small number of pine trees.

Whyalla mayor Lyn Breuer said the installation of three new playgrounds across the city was exciting for the community.

“The council is continuously working to improve our assets and facilities in public areas,” Ms Breuer said.

“Our playgrounds, parks and reserves are well used facilities, and the council is thrilled to be investing in new equipment to be used by the whole community.”
