Community asked to comment on council’s strategic direction

Whyalla City Council is inviting members of the public to provide feedback on its draft strategic plan.

The strategic plan is a high level planning document, supported by a number of other plans, which collectively form the strategic management planning framework of the council.

The strategic plan has been developed in conjunction with elected members and senior council staff, and takes into consideration the city’s current economic, social and environmental factors.

The council recently decided to undertake a review of the strategic plan, and has been working collectively to develop a quality document that applies an appropriate focus on current issues facing the community.

The council is now seeking public feedback on the plan to ensure that the objectives and strategies outlined within the plan represent the needs of the entire community.

Whyalla mayor Lyn Breuer said the strategic plan provided a strong guide for the elected body and council staff moving into the future, and the council wanted to hear what the community thought about the content of the plan.

“The council’s strategic plan is a guiding document that we can refer to when making decisions, and clearly outlines the council’s goal, vision and values, as well as a number of strategies that have been developed so that we can achieve what we have set out to achieve,” Ms Breuer said.

“We have been working hard to develop a comprehensive strategic plan, and we are now calling on the community to have their say by providing feedback on the draft plan.”

Copies of the draft strategic plan can be found on the council’s website, or hard copies are available from the council’s civic building in Darling Terrace and at Whyalla Public Library.

Residents can submit their feedback by emailing council@whyalla.sa.gov.au, returning written comments to the council’s civic building or Whyalla Public Library, or by posting their comments to PO Box 126, Whyalla, SA, 5600.

The public consultation period will open from Thursday, March 16 and will close on Wednesday, April 5.
